my story

Why I started Village Social Club

When I became a mum, I thought the village would just… appear. I imagined I’d naturally find my people — at rhyme time, baby classes, or playgroups. But it didn’t really happen that way.

I tried lots of things: library rhyme time, sensory programs, baby development classes. They were all so lovely in their own way, but often felt uncertain. Were the other parents there to make mum friends, or just to spend time with their child? I didn’t want to intrude if it was the latter, and friendships never took off.

I gave playgroups a try. They’re a great fit for some, but I found myself craving something a little different. Sitting in the same community hall week after week didn’t leave me excited to go back — I wanted to be outside more, exploring new spaces, and meeting people in a way that felt more organic.

Along the way, I even started my own wonderful nature playgroup. It was such a beautiful experience, and I loved creating meaningful play opportunities for children. But over time, I realised my focus had shifted almost entirely to the activities and child development. What I was still longing for was a space designed first and foremost for parents to connect.

That’s where the idea for Village Social Club came in.

Village is for parents like me. It’s for those looking for a child-friendly space where you know everyone is open to making new connections, swapping stories, and slowly building their village.

We keep it simple: coffee mornings, pram walks, picnics in the park. Occasionally we may do some ticketed events too.

No pressure, no perfection — just real-life connection, while the kids play alongside us.

Because while it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to hold up the parents.
